Independently lead packaging development and commercialization of new materials and packaging systems to deliver against mid- and long-term business objectives in Packaging Sustainability. Gain alignment across key functions and model commercialization best practices.
Manage technical timelines, provide timely communication, raise issues and risks, and develop contingency plans leveraging strong project management skills.
Coordinate and conduct functional testing including lab testing, plant trials, and packaging material qualifications.
Must be able to deliver and operate across cultures & time zones in a global capacity. Generally, essential to advanced level of delivery with some key decision-gate guidance. Builds knowledge of the company, processes and customers. Understands key business drivers and uses this to accomplish own work. Knowledge of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market. In-depth understanding of qualification and validation. Leads the development of success criteria against a qualification plan.
Essential level; informs the business strategy. Able to identify business needs and generate ideas and concepts, develop the business case cross functionally. Expertise in prototyping. Utilize appropriate IP tools to document and protect ideas.
Essential to Advanced level; in-depth understanding of experimental design, qualification and validation. Partners cross functionally to deliver against research plans, developing success criteria, qualification and validation plans with support from other associates. Develops the technical approach with some areas of specialty. Uses existing procedures to solve a range of defined problems; analyses factual information and determines possible solutions using technical experience and judgment and precedents.
People & Technical Capability Development:
Essential level; May coach interns or entry-level associates. Requires knowledge and experience in R&D. Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team.
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or relevant field and/or military experience
6 years of relevant work experience
4 years working with cross functional teams, or comparable experience
Demonstrated solid verbal and written communication skills
Ability to travel up to 30%
Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or Packaging Engineering Degree
MBA or Masters in Science
8 + years of relevant work experience
3 years project management experience
Technical Leadership within a startup environment
Familiarity with change management
Ability to educate others
Experience with Consumer Packaged Goods, Resin suppliers, or Recycling
2 years working in an innovative work environment
1 year working in an extremely ambiguous environment with limited guidance, with demonstrated problem solving experience
