Plant Manager - Gaffney, SC

Basic Job Function:

Successful growing company seeks a strong Plant Manager with experience in automotive rack manufacturing with weld, fabricating and engineering experience possessing a solid safety background. This position is responsible for coordinating and managing all daily plant activities including scheduling, receiving & inventory management, production, control process, and on time delivery of product in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives. The successful Plant Manager will be on the warehouse floor 75% of the time, insuring efficiencies and production objectives are met at the lowest cost consistent with quality requirements. This position focuses on leading staff to reinforce that Essex Weld USA stands for the absolute best quality automotive racks and containers, at the best price, provided in the most efficient manner FOR THE CUSTOMER.


  • Continuously improve safety culture through a proactive approach in a facility where safety is the number one priority

  • Oversee daily floor operations and processes including but not limited to:

o Prototype, Prep department, Weld lines & Assembly Operations

o Optimize productive time for employees by eliminating unnecessary processes

o Oversee outbound shipments, incoming inventory, and storage operations

o Maintain operating budget and cost controls

o Manage environmental/occupational health & safety

  • Coordinate the on-time execution of manufacturing schedules based on sales and plant capacity

  • Must possess creativity/adaptability to successfully manage plant to effectively address changing business conditions and to achieve objectives

  • Confers with subordinates, engineers and program managers on the application of methods and production standards, and adherence to safety programs. Reviews all recommendations as well and works on a daily basis with prototype or fixture builder to produce work orders

  • In-depth, hands-on knowledge of production system principles and processes, including Kaizen events, Hoshin Planning, visual controls, Kanban, set-up reduction, and process mapping

  • Lead in a continuous improvement environment to minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital

  • May have direct contact with customers on complaints and service matters

  • Attends and actively participates in daily operational & efficiency meetings

Physical Skill and Effort:

• Position requires ability to work in a production plant with welding, machining, and other fabrication environment

• Limited manual dexterity required. Work requires infrequent physical effort

• Requires valid passport and ability to travel across international borders. Must have ability to secure a rental car - occasionally, in conducting position responsibilities. Includes ability to handle luggage normal to business travel of varying length duration
