The Packaging School Partners with Sonoco Thermosafe for Cold Chain Certification Program

Sonoco ThermoSafe Launches Certification Program for Temperature Assurance Packaging

Industry’s first program to train and certify cold chain packaging professionals globally

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., U.S. – Sonoco ThermoSafe, a unit of Sonoco (NYSE:SON) and a leading global provider of temperature assurance packaging, has launched the industry’s first certification program to train and certify cold chain packaging professionals globally. The certification program was developed by Sonoco ThermoSafe’s ISC Labs in partnership with The Packaging School, Dr. R. Andrew Hurley, Assistant Professor of Packaging Science at Clemson University, and an advisory panel of pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesalers, logistics providers, and industry experts.

“Starting in 1989, ISC Labs was the first thermal testing laboratory and today, it marks another milestone of launching industry’s first temperature assurance packaging (TAP) certification program. The program shares several years of knowledge and expertise of ISC Labs on design, development, temperature monitoring, impact of regulations, handling and shipment of temperature controlled packaging,” said Vishal Khushalani, director of global marketing and business development, Sonoco ThermoSafe. “Based on customer feedback, we created two levels of certifications courses. The first level, called the “Fundamentals Course” is a self-paced, online course that offers training participants a systematic approach to developing a foundational understanding of Temperature Assurance Packaging. This online course is available at www.thermosafe.com/TAPCertification. The second level, called the “Professional Course” is a one-day, live training course conducted by university professors, laboratory engineers, and industry experts that provides hands-on instruction and training. We are excited to debut the Professional Course at this year’s Cold Chain Global Forum at Boston, MA on September 26, 2016.”

“Sonoco has historically been a world-wide industry innovator in cold chain packaging, and we are honored to have them as our inaugural corporate partner for The Packaging School’s customizable learning platform,” said Andrew Hurley, Chief Learning Officer of The Packaging School. “The decision to create the first level of the TAP certification as an online course enables Sonoco Thermosafe to reach a global community of professionals. I’m looking forward to getting one-on-one feedback from many of our students in person at the Professional Course offering in September,” Hurley added.
